LOSING MY MIND: GEEK GIRL ON NETFLIX

Losing My Mind from Some Velvet Morning’s debut album, Silence Will Kill You features in the new Netflix series Geek Girl.

‘Geek Girl’ is a British-Canadian ten-part television series about an awkward teenager who unexpectedly becomes a model. It is based on the 2013 young novel. The first season was released on 30 May 2024 on Netflix.

Awkward, neurodivergent teenager Harriet Manners whose life is turned upside down when she is spotted to be a model and embarks on a life-affirming journey of self-discovery as she balances high school and high fashion.

Events in the book are “loosely based” on author Holly’s real-life experience of “falling into modeling as a geeky teen”, explains BookTrust “which makes Harriet’s struggle to accept herself in the face of bullies all the more touching.” It adds: “Not only this, but the writing is genuinely funny and the facts littered throughout will appeal to all the real life geek girls out there looking for a lead character to identify with.”

REVIEWS:

“The onscreen version of the bestselling YA novels loses absolutely none of the originals’ charm. It’s fresh, lively and energetic – with actors that channel the source material brilliantly” – The Guardian

“Bright and boldly coloured, the series even has a killer soundtrack that would feel right at home in the late 2000s, courtesy of Ladyhawke and Franz Ferdinand, both of which are set to welcome in a whole new generation of fans.” – Radio Times

“STREAM IT. Geek Girl is a well-written and well-acted look at what happens when someone who doesn’t usually embrace surprises in life does so out of the simple desire to be seen” – Decider.

“It’s a solid showcase for its 21-year-old star. Geek Girl is a likably wholesome, generally low-stakes YA fairy tale — references to Cinderella abound” – Hollywood Reporter.
